LOST
Saturday, August 16th, 2008
THE LOST SERIES HAS BEGUN! Over the next two months we will be covering some major spiritual questions as we begin to change our worldview to God’s worldview. Two of the major questions we will cover is:
“How do I know that God really exists?” & “What’s the deal with evolution?”
We will also be covering some different characteristics of God. These are not easy questions with easy answers, but they are important questions for us to understand as believers so we can better share our faith with others.
New H2O Projector Fund
Monday, March 10th, 2008FUND TOTAL (as of today): $829.64
On Wednesday, March 5 I spoke to the youth on the issue of money & giving. We are so blessed in America to have all that we have, but we are also responsible to be good stewards of what God has blessed us with. Dr. Donald S. Whitney says that “the question is not how much of my money am I going to give to God, but how much of God’s money am I going to keep for myself?”
It is no secret that ministry requires resources and resources requires money. A big need we have for our H2O worship service on Wednesday night is a new projector for the right side of the room. However, this will cost about $1,000 to purchase and install. I have challenged the youth to raise the money needed for the new projector, but we will not be “fund raising” this money. I have asked the youth to give out of their own pockets, even if that means sacrificing some things they love.
Every week we will be taking up an offering from the youth. If every student gave one dollar for just 10 weeks we could raise the money needed. Please pray for God’s leadership as we give and move forward with the student ministry here at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church
Carol of the Bells
Wednesday, December 12th, 2007Homes for LIFE Promo Video
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007In Nicaragua, we’re not just building a house, we’re fulfilling a dream for families…the dream of owning a REAL HOME! With your support and in cooperation with Life Outreach International, our Homes for LIFE outreach will build 300 brand new homes for families and children living in extreme poverty.
These concrete homes are built to last a minimum of 25 years in the roughest weather conditions. To provide a home for only $3,600 means your gift goes a long way
- $30 will help provide shelter, water and food for 3 months
- $60 will help provide shelter, water and food for 6 months
- $120 will help provide a home for a family for an entire year
- $1200 can be combined with two other gifts to help sponsor a new home, water and food
- $3600 will help sponsor a new home for a family, provide a lifetime of clean water and food for a year
Facts About Nicaragua:
50% of the population in Nicaragua lives in overcrowded housing with 3 or more people per room. Most do not own their own houses.
83% of the homes are self-constructed and built from scrap and other discarded materials. 43% have earthen floors.
75% of the targeted population is malnourished. 27% of the children are underweight, comparable to areas in central and eastern Africa.
The dirt floors and unclean water create a cycle of deteriorating health. Ear, eye and skin infections are prevalent in children and many of the water sources are contaminated, leading to cholera, dysentery and, in some cases, death.
Good housing provides the first steps toward better health and a better family life. Project HOPE homes will shelter a family from the environment with concrete floors, solid walls and a reliable roof, providing a place of rest and safety.

Beau – 1 Elevator – 0
Thursday, January 11th, 2007
If you attended “Boost” last night you now know of the terror that Beau experienced on our very own elevator of headphone death! As Mr. Moore entered the elevator heading downstairs to prepare for the service he did not follow basic elevator safety instructions. YOUR MUST COMPLETELY CLEAR THE ELEVATOR DOORS! The cable that hangs over his back got caught in the closing doors, as the elevator began it’s journey down, the headphone cable stayed right there on the third floor, snapping into a ZILLION pieces! As disaster struck and the band gathered round staring in dismay, do think Sir Moore of the
Looxahoma fire department threw in the towel? NO! He stood there on the second floor laughing in the face of fear as he pulled out his trusty tool of choice, the ole box cutter, and plunged into his in-ear headphone emergency surgery. He took beau only 12 minutes to revive his trusty ole friend. Pictured here you will see Beau on the secod floor and (ironically) on the elevator ride back up reparing the headphones for the service. For those of you who may be wondering about their future, chances are they will be tossed for a new pair of monitors in the weeks to come, while they have done their job well in the past, chances are they will not be able to perform at the level our Looxahoma fire fighter expects of his gear.
